Forbidden friendships : homosexuality and male culture in Renaissance Florence / Michael Rocke.
This study takes into account the 70-year history of "The Office of the Night", created in 1432 to police sexual behaviour in Florence. It shows a culture which accepted sodomy and charts the changes in public attitudes and private practises when acceptance turned to repression.
